Our purpose is to foster a generation of informed, active, and empathetic leaders who shape the future through civil engagement, integrity, and collaborative progress. We aim to shift active participation in local government from past generations to current ones.

What is TEG?
TEG is a youth-led organization that helps teens understand how government works, find their voice, and take meaningful action in their communities. Through school clubs and social groups, TEG creates opportunities for young people to become informed, involved, and confident community members. Our goal is to show young audiences the importance of civic engagement and active participation in the communities around them.
Engagement is Essential
Did you know your city can make decisions that affect where you live, how you get to school, what gets built near your neighborhood, and even what happens to private property?
Local governments can influence zoning, roads, policing, utilities, business rules, taxes and fees, parks, and major development projects. In some cases, they can even use eminent domain to acquire private property for a public purpose, with compensation required by law.
These decisions may not make national headlines, but they can shape your everyday life.

Not only should all citizens be active in their local governments, but numerous career paths would benefit from prior experience.
TEG is a community
Unlike other organizations that bridge the gap between students and government, TEG takes a hyperlocal approach. TEG starts where change is felt first: at home. Our hyperlocal approach focuses on city councils, local officials, policies, and issues that directly shape students’ everyday lives, giving young people the knowledge and confidence to engage with decisions in their own communities.

"The idea for TEG came to me in an instant, but bringing it to life was a much longer journey. As someone active on social media, I have noticed more and more young people becoming aware of national government and national issues, which is an important step in the right direction. Young people should absolutely understand and have a voice in the country they live in.
However, I began to feel that local government was being overlooked entirely. Many young people do not realize how much the decisions made by local officials directly affect their schools, neighborhoods, roads, communities, and everyday lives. That realization sparked the idea for TEG: an organization designed to help young people understand local government, find their voice, and become active participants in their communities."

I believe students should be active in today's government because many teens do not know their rights and what they can do to effect their future. My goal as Vice President is to remind teens that their vote matters and help them find their voice.
